The Fulbright English Teaching Assistant program in Taiwan helps to improve the teaching of the English language at Taiwan’s elementary schools and junior high schools. It aims to strengthen educational and cultural relationships between the United States and Taiwan. English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) usually cooperate closely with a Taiwanese teacher of English and assist in the classroom, including cultural projects. ETAs also are expected to engage closely with their surrounding community. They are placed in different kinds of schools in large and small communities, in cities and rural areas, many with diverse student populations.

All ETAs are also required to have a service project during the grant period. ETAs share their skills, learn from others, affect the lives of others, and experience the joy of serving people from different cultures. Projects are organized to help deliver services identified by local coordinators.

Awards are available to pursue a full-time Master’s degree in Mind, Brain, and Consciousness at Taipei Medical University (TMU). The program is taught in English.

\n

TMU has been a leader in Taiwan’s healthcare system for six decades. It is an integrated educational system combining teaching, research, industry-university cooperation, and clinical service.

\n

The Graduate Institute of Mind, Brain and Consciousness (GIMBC) conducts experimental work on the neuroscience of consciousness and cognition. GIMBC conducts research at multiple levels (healthy, diseased, animal and computational work), and is equipped with EEG, fMRI/MRS, TMS, tDCS, SCR, VR, eye tracker, and driving simulator. Research topics span across philosophy, cognitive psychology and neuroscience, such as neuro-ethics, attention and memory, sleep, mindfulness, selfhood, circadian rhythms and mood, and social cognition. With close ties with TMU’s three affiliated hospitals – TMU Hospital, Wan Fang Medical Center, and Shuang Ho Hospital – GIMBC also conducts research in neurological and psychiatric populations, including research on bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer’s disease.

\n

As TMU rises in global and Asia rankings, it builds on a strong performance record in the QS World University rankings. Essential Science Indicators (ESI) recognizes the outstanding performance of the eight disciplines (Neuroscience & Behavior, Social Science-General, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Biology & Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Genetics, Immunology, and Agricultural Science) in TMU as the top 1% in medical fields worldwide. With a very well-received five-year development proposal, TMU was awarded the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Sprout Project, with special annual funding to support TMU’s education and research portfolio.

\n

NTHU is one of Taiwan’s most prestigious comprehensive research universities, and is widely known as an incubator for future leaders, with prominent alumni including Nobel laureates. NTHU is located in Hsin-chu, a historical city south of Taipei, and has one of the most beautiful campuses on the island. The city is surrounded by magnificent terrain that are home to indigenous peoples with great cultural diversity. Hsin-chu is also known as the Silicon Valley of Taiwan which blends the cultural depth and high-tech modernity nicely.

\n

NTHU has ten colleges – Science, Engineering, Nuclear Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Life Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Technology Management, Education, Arts, and Tsing Hua College. NTHU hosts hundreds of international students from over forty nations across the globe. The university is ranked highly in the QS World Rankings and has agreements for cooperative research, exchange and other joint activities with more than 100 universities around the world. NTHU receives the highest ratio of award winning faculty among all universities in Taiwan.

\n

The English-taught Master’s Program in Austronesian Studies at NTHU is the first of its kind in the region and is well situated among the top humanities and social sciences colleges in Taiwan. It is also supported by the Center for World Austronesia and Indigenous Peoples (CWAIP).

\n

This Center promotes interdisciplinary studies on Austronesian speaking groups and indigenous peoples, which covers anthropology, linguistics, history, literature, education, and law. Launched in 2021, this MA program seeks to promote and enhance the study of indigenous peoples in Taiwan within the greater context of the Austronesian-speaking world across Southeast Asia and Oceania, in areas such as environmental studies, gender and sexuality, state and indigenous relations, multicultural education, multispecies studies, religion and material cultures. It offers an English taught program that will attract non-Mandarin speakers to pursue their studies. Students may conduct independent research and fieldwork which are essential for personal learning and professional development.

\n

NTHU has one of the most distinguished linguistics programs in Taiwan in theoretical linguistics as well as in the fields of Chinese and Austronesian linguistics. There is also a Hsin-chu Learning Center for Indigenous Languages which offers various indigenous language courses every semester.

Awards are available to pursue a full-time Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics at National Taiwan University (NTU). The program is taught in English.

\n

NTU is the most comprehensive university and the foremost research-led institution in Taiwan. It is considered by many the best and most prestigious academic institution in Taiwan, constantly placed among top ranked universities in Asia. NTU's leading role in education and research is supported by a global strategy that capitalizes on sustained mobility, an expanded network of 450 partners, and the creation of quality global opportunities.

\n

NTU is committed to producing outstanding innovation in a wide array of fields. Powered by NTU's national and international research hubs, NTU leads many cutting-edge research programs in science and engineering, medicine, life science, agriculture, and social sciences. It is internationally recognized as a pioneer in translational research, and is acclaimed for its world-leading breakthroughs in chip design.

\n

The Agricultural Economics Master’s Program is a multifaceted effort of the Department of Agricultural Economics, the College of Bio-Resources and Agriculture, and the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF). This was NTU’s first Master’s program taught entirely in English.

\n

Agricultural development is the crucial factor for a country’s broad-based development. Agriculture has played an important role in Taiwan’s economic development. Students learning agricultural economics expertise and agri-business management skills through the program will be well prepared to engage in agricultural production, marketing, important issues and problems of agriculture, which in turn help to foster their potential for leadership in agricultural policy and agribusiness management.

Awards are available to pursue a full-time Master’s degree in International Communication Studies (IMICS) at National Chengchi University (NCCU). The program is taught in English.

\n

NCCU is a leading university in Taiwan, especially in the fields of humanities, social sciences, management, politics, and international affairs, and provides a top international environment to foreign students. NCCU has also been selected as an “Aim for the Top University Project” sponsored school of the Ministry of Education and ranks high in the QS World Universities rankings.

\n

The International Master’s Program in International Communication Studies (IMICS) focuses on cross-cultural communication studies with an additional emphasis on the Asia-Pacific area. The program aims at promoting both the quality and the content of current international communications research, and at cultivating future leaders and professionals in the field of international communications.

\n

With the help of reputable faculty members from the three well-established communication departments (Journalism, Advertising, and Radio & Television) at NCCU, IMICS offers an extensive range of elective courses designed not only to introduce students to the theories and skills required to write a research dissertation but to conduct in-depth discussions on various communication-related subjects such as media and marketing, political communication, globalization and international relations. IMICS students are expected to be knowledgeable, well-trained experts who are able to adapt to the rapid change and global interdependence that characterizes the 21st Century, and make an impact on a global level both in academia and in industry.

However, being awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student grant does not guarantee receipt of CLEA since review of each award is conducted separately and is contingent upon several factors. In Taiwan, only degree-seeking students pursuing Master's studies will be eligible for CLEA.
