Award Profile
Awards are available to pursue a full-time Master’s Degree in Diplomacy (CMI) at National Chengchi University (NCCU). The program is taught in Mandarin.
The Department of Diplomacy was established in 1930. Nowadays the department is still the only academic institution in Taiwan which is named Diplomacy and aims to cultivate scholars and practitioners of international relations and foreign affairs. The graduates from this department over more than 90 years have devoted themselves to be career diplomats as well as political, business and academic elites. In recent years, along with the changing job market, graduates have chosen a variety of career paths, including business management, press and media, public relations for business, show business, and the IT industry.
The Department offers programs with an overarching focus on equipping students with global mobility and international competitiveness. In response to the rapidly changing world, the curriculum is based on international relations and related issues such as international security, power politics, climate change, global governance, and cross-cultural communications, to name a few.
NCCU provides a unique perspective for American students studying Asia-related issues in Taiwan. Faculty at NCCU have published on international affairs, and there are a wide variety of China-specific or China-related courses offered at NCCU. Knowing China not by the Chinese government’s perspective is the main strength in NCCU’s China studies programs. Taiwan is geographically a center of East Asia and the gate to the Indo-Pacific region: Fulbright students can easily travel to Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Manila, and Singapore within 5 hours by flight. This means more possibilities for students to have exposure to different cultures in this region.
Fulbright students are expected to fulfill Teaching Assistant duties while studying for their degree. Students will receive opportunities of internships to practice what they learn as well.
The award is co-sponsored by National Chengchi University.
