Current U.S. Student

United States citizens who are currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs are eligible to apply.If you are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a U.S. college or university, you will apply through that institution, even if you are not currently a resident there. U.S. Citizen but not a Student

If you are a U.S. citizen, will hold a bachelor’s degree by the award start date, and do not have a Ph.D. degree, then you are eligible to apply. Non-enrolled applicants should have relatively limited professional experience in the fields (typically 7 years or less) in which they are applying. Candidates with more experience should consider applying for the Fulbright Scholar Program.

Artist

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program welcomes applications in the creative and performing arts. Arts candidates for the U.S. Student Program should have relatively limited professional experience in the fields (typically 7 years or less) in which they are applying. Artists with more experience should consider applying for the Fulbright Scholar Program.

Creative & Performing Arts projects fall under the Study/Research grant category and are available in all countries where Study/Research grants are offered.

U.S. Professor/Administrator

If you are a U.S. citizen and a professor or administrator at a U.S. institution and are interested in applying for a Fulbright Scholar Award, you will need to apply through fulbrightscholars.org.

ASPE Compass

Mental Health Support Hotline

ASPE provides access to a mental health consultant and referral services hotline.  ASPE Compass is a benefit for all Exchange Participants, including those on the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, during their USDOS program.  ASPE Compass is designed to augment the health benefits that are concurrently provided through ASPE.

ASPE Compass is a telephonic/virtual support service that is accessible 24 hours a day and is available to provide mental health support to exchange participants in urgent and non-urgent situations, including identification and referral of mental health conditions requiring immediate, in-person medical evaluation and crisis intervention. The medical staff responding to exchange participant calls are trained to handle serious situations such as sexual assault and mental health crises. They can also provide general mental health advice. 

ASPE Compass is provided through telemedicine
  • Lifetime Maximum benefit is six (6) sessions 
  • Any additional sessions require medical recommendation, in conjunction with the provider and current ASPE benefits (see ASPE benefits guide*)
$25 Copay for each office visit/telemedicine consultation
  • First six (6) provider sessions do not incur a copay
  • Co-pays incurred beyond six sessions are billed by the provider to the participant at end of their treatment / prior to the end of their program, not to exceed the plan’s co-pay maximum of $500 per benefit year
  • ASPE Outpatient Mental Health Care: Lifetime Maximum benefit is thirty (30) visits*

When contacting ASPE Compass for the first time, please be prepared to provide your full name and date of birth, ID card number, program name (Fulbright U.S. Student Program) and host country. This information will allow their staff to verify your status as a U.S. Fulbright Student grantee with the ASPE Health Benefits Plan.

The information provided by you to TELUS Health Group in the event of an illness, emergency or other personal crisis is considered private. However, it may be responsibly shared within organizations administrating your grant program in their efforts to assist and support you.
