Current U.S. Student

United States citizens who are currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs are eligible to apply.If you are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a U.S. college or university, you will apply through that institution, even if you are not currently a resident there. U.S. Citizen but not a Student

If you are a U.S. citizen, will hold a bachelor’s degree by the award start date, and do not have a Ph.D. degree, then you are eligible to apply. Non-enrolled applicants should have relatively limited professional experience in the fields (typically 7 years or less) in which they are applying. Candidates with more experience should consider applying for the Fulbright Scholar Program.

Artist

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program welcomes applications in the creative and performing arts. Arts candidates for the U.S. Student Program should have relatively limited professional experience in the fields (typically 7 years or less) in which they are applying. Artists with more experience should consider applying for the Fulbright Scholar Program.

Creative & Performing Arts projects fall under the Study/Research grant category and are available in all countries where Study/Research grants are offered.

If you are a U.S. citizen and a professor or administrator at a U.S. institution and are interested in applying for a Fulbright Scholar Award, you will need to apply through fulbrightscholars.org.

As part of your Fulbright grant, you are required to attend a virtual Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) from July 8-11, 2024. The PDO will provide sessions and activities to help you prepare for your upcoming experience. You will receive an email in mid-June that will direct you to the PDO website, where you can register for the event. If you have any questions regarding the PDO, please email FulbrightPDO.WHA@iie.org.

U.S. Fulbright participants and accompanying dependents staying in the Dominican Republic for less than 30 days do not need a visa. A tourist card must be purchased for $10 USD upon arrival at the Santo Domingo airport. (http://www.dgii.gov.do/tarjetaTuristica)

Fulbright participants staying in the country for more than 30 days, but less than 60 days need to pay an overstay fee that beginning after the 30-day period ends (approx. US$50 for a 30-60 day period.

For stays longer than 60 days, Fulbright U.S. grantees can obtain a courtesy visa

Estudiante Fulbright de los Estados Unidos: Duración: 10 meses

VISA DE CORTESÍA MULTIPLE (1 año de vigencia) from their closest Dominican Embassy or Consulate before leaving. Visas require a valid passport, a copy of the grantee’s award letter, a cover letter requesting an official visa, a form to fill out that is provided by the Embassy and two 2x2 photos. Once Fulbright grantees arrive to the Dominican Republic, they must report to the Dominican Migration Office, Foreigner’s Department, and request a Residency Permission for Artists, Athletes, and Exchange Students (Permiso para Artistas, Deportistas, e Estudiantes de Intercambio (PADEI)) utilizing all documents submitted to the Dominican Consulate in the United States and a medical test from a certified physician. They will be charged approximately $7,000 DOP for the ID card which needs to be returned after completion of the program. Fulbright Specialists do not require a permissions since their stay is less than 60 days.
