Award Profile
The aim of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program in Mozambique is to promote mutual cultural understanding and strengthen educational ties between the U.S. and Mozambique.

Grant Period
Fulbright grants will begin between August 2024 and March 2025, subject to the approval of the U.S. Embassy in Maputo or according to the academic calendar of the host institution.
Orientation
As a condition of their grants, all grantees may be required to participate in a Pre-Departure Orientation during the summer of 2024.
Candidate Profile
Prior experience in the country is preferred, but not required. Candidates from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Foreign Language Proficiency
Additional Information: Intermediate Portuguese language skills are necessary, not only for the development of the proposed project, but also in order to settle in easily and communicate on a daily basis. Higher level proficiency may be necessary depending on the requirements of the proposed project. Knowledge of an indigenous language is not required, but may be useful, especially outside of urban areas.

Letter required for independent study or research at deadline
It is the applicant’s responsibility to secure affiliation with an appropriate host institution. Applicants are required to include affiliation letters with their Fulbright applications. Affiliation letters are also needed in order to obtain a visa.
If the prospective host institution is a Mozambican college or university, a separate application to that institution is not required.
