Current U.S. Student

United States citizens who are currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs are eligible to apply. All applicants enrolled in U.S institutions must apply through their home campuses. Find the Fulbright Program Adviser on your campus.

If you are an undergraduate student, you are eligible to apply in the fall of your senior year.  If you are a graduate student, you are eligible as long as you will not have a PhD degree by the application deadline.

U.S. Citizen but not a Student

If you are a U.S. citizen, will hold a bachelor’s degree by the award start date, and do not have a PhD degree, then you are eligible to apply. Non-enrolled applicant should have relatively limited professional experience in the fields (typically 7 years or less) in which they are applying. Candidates with more experience should consider applying for the Fulbright Scholar Program.

The Getting Started page will provide information on eligibility and next steps.

Artist

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program welcomes applications in the creative and performing arts. Arts candidates for the U.S. Student Program should have relatively limited professional experience in the fields (typically 7 years or less) in which they are applying. Artists with more experience should consider applying for the Fulbright Scholar Program.

Creative & Performing Arts projects fall under the Study/Research grant category and are available in all countries where Study/Research grants are offered.

FPA

U.S. Professor/Administrator

If you are a U.S. citizen and a professor or administrator at a U.S. institution and are interested in applying for a Fulbright Scholar Award, you will need to apply through CIES.

To support your students in applying for a U.S. Student Program award, please connect with the Fulbright Program Adviser at your institution.

Non U.S. Citizens

If you are a non-U.S. citizen interested in applying for a Fulbright Award to the United States, you will need to apply through the Fulbright Commission or U.S. Embassy in your home country. Find out more information on the Fulbright Visiting Scholar or Student Program.

Two awards are available to attend the Master of Gastronomy: World Food Cultures and Mobility at the University of Gastronomic Sciences Pollenzo, Italy

\n

The Master's program provides an advanced introduction to the world food cultures and systems with an emphasis on issues of food sustainability and food sovereignty. The program intends to train students to become holistic gastronomes, i.e. gastronomes who are able to understand and critically reflect upon food culture and history, food anthropology and ecology, and sensory and aesthetic features linked to local food production, gastronomies, and their attached sociabilities. The aim of the Master's program is to provide students with the means for becoming professionals who will be cultural mediators in the food production, distribution, marketing/communication, as well as in the educational and food culture and systems. The Master's program will use the case of the Italian food culture and system and the gastronomies of the world to enlighten global issues related to culture, sustainability, and food justice inspired by the fundamental principles of the Slow Food international movement (Good, Clean, and Fair), and it provides students with multidisciplinary knowledge in food studies. Each course combines theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom with practical skills acquired during work experience and field trips.

The Master's includes a full program of practical training (study trips and internships). The program is conducted in English.

The role of the affiliation in the U.S. Student Program is to provide ongoing and substantive oversight and support for the grantee's project. Grantees will be required to have affiliations with one of the 23 universities located in the six regions of southern Italy: Campania, Puglia, Calabria, Sardegna, Basilicata, or Sicilia. The aim of this award is to promote a better knowledge of the South of Italy and to promote knowledge exchange and research in South-related issues at universities in the South of Italy. Grantees may also seek affiliation with accredited Italian research institutions in the South.

\n

Applicants must initiate contact with the host institution of preference and obtain a formal letter of affiliation between the applicant and the host institution. The letter should state that a host contact will be available during the grant year to mentor the applicant and/or supervise the applicant's work on the proposed project. While issuing the letter, the host contact must describe accurately the following points:

\n
    \n
  1. Origin of the collaboration;
  2. \n
  3. Role of the Host Contact in the Candidate Project;
  4. \n
  5. Possible enrolment of the candidate in classes held in English;
  6. \n
  7. How the Host affiliation is planning to involve the Candidate in the Institution's activities;
  8. \n
  9. Are the candidate and host contact planning to explore potential collaborations?;
  10. \n
  11. Access to facilities and resources;
  12. \n
  13. Collaboration with an ongoing project.
  14. \n
\n

Please note that the U.S.-Italy Commission will contact the proposed host institution of semi-finalist candidates and request that the host contact confirm these arrangements.

\n

Although encouraged, candidates are not required to enroll in academic courses at the University; however, as indicated above, applicants must establish contacts and secure affiliations with a university or research center in the South of Italy.

\n

Grantee's city of residence in Italy must be the city of the host institution.

\n

Affiliations with U.S. institutions located in the South of Italy are discouraged, and will be considered only if secondary to the affiliation with an Italian institution; and if “the faculty and student body of the school are primarily nationals of the host country, with courses and research opportunities primarily in non-U.S. subjects.” (FFSB Policies)

With the support of NIAF (National Italian-American Foundation), one grant is available for a U.S. graduate student to study and carry out research in criminology and the rule of law at the Fondazione Giovanni e Francesca Falcone in Palermo. The aim of this scholarship is to foster and strengthen exchanges in promoting the value of the rule of law and legality among young people and to promote the development of the anti-mafia culture in the society.

\n

Fondazione “Giovanni Francesca Falcone” was constituted in December 1992 after the assassination of Judge Giovanni Falcone who was killed by the mafia in May 1992 (Strage di Capaci), together with his wife Judge Francesca Morvillo and three escort guards. According to the Statute, the principal aim of the Fondazione is to implement initiatives in order to contribute to a real permanent education to legality principles through social and cultural initiatives.

\n

\n

Further information on the Fondazione “Giovanni e Francesca Falcone” can be found at: http://www.fondazionefalcone.it/
