US Embassy Rangoon hosted its first ETAs in 2020, placing them in public universities with experience hosting English Language Fellows and Fulbrighters. As the country and the universities continue to open and democratize, there is a high level of interest and eagerness to engage with and learn from native English language speakers.

\nCandidates from all majors are welcomed but those with Education/English majors who possess prior teaching experience are preferred. As cultural ambassadors, ETAs are expected to exhibit a high level of professionalism and share aspects of American culture with their schools.
\nCandidates must be fluent English-speakers. ETAs are expected to exhibit a high level of professionalism and respect towards people in their host schools, community and the Embassy. As cultural ambassadors, ETAs are also encouraged to share aspects of American culture with their schools.
\nCandidates need to be self-motivated, adventurous, flexible, and independent. Candidates must be able to adapt and thrive within a variety of intensive cultural environments including the challenges of living in a less comfortable setting. Candidates must be willing and able to physically and mentally adjust to work in the Burmese cultural context and the Myanmar educational system.
\nETAs cannot be accompanied by dependents.

\nApproximately 20-25 hours per week of classroom teaching alongside local English teachers, plus requisite class preparation time and school-related activities, will be required. ETAs also spend up to 10 hours per week leading extracurricular activities at their host schools. Each school may have additional expectations for their ETA.
\nPAS will assist with housing arrangements. Housing situations will vary from one location to another, but will meet the basic needs. Air-conditioning, fridges, and cooking facilities may be available. Access to modern grocery stores, gyms, or modern medical facilities may be limited.

Those already holding TESOL/TEFL certificates or having Master’s degrees in TESOL/TEFL are not required to complete the course.
