Current U.S. Student

United States citizens who are currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs are eligible to apply. All applicants enrolled in U.S institutions must apply through their home campuses. Find the Fulbright Program Adviser on your campus.

If you are an undergraduate student, you are eligible to apply in the fall of your senior year.  If you are a graduate student, you are eligible as long as you will not have a PhD degree by the application deadline.

U.S. Citizen but not a Student

If you are a U.S. citizen, hold a bachelor’s degree, and do not have a PhD degree, then you are eligible to apply. Non-enrolled applicants are encouraged to contact the Fulbright Program Adviser at their most recent alma mater to inquire if the institution can support alumni/ae through the application process. If not, non-enrolled applicants are welcome to apply at “at-large” candidates.

Non-enrolled applicant should have relatively limited professional experience in the fields (typically 7 years or less) in which they are applying. Candidates with more experience should consider applying for the Fulbright Scholar Program.

Please visit the Getting Started page for next steps.

Arts candidates for the U.S. Student Program should have relatively limited professional experience in the fields (typically 7-years or less) in which they are applying. Award Profile

One award is offered to pursue a one-year masters or higher research program (or the first year of a longer masters or higher research degree program) in any subject at the University of Nottingham.

The University of Nottingham was established in 1881 and has awarded over 280,000 degrees since gaining university status in 1948. Nottingham is a founder member of the Universitas 21 international network and the UK's prestigious Russell Group, a group of the UK's leading universities committed to the highest standards in teaching and research.

Nottingham is ranked in the world's top 100 universities and the UK's top 20 by the QS World University Rankings 2020. Choose from a wide variety of graduate degree programmes across its five faculties of arts, engineering, medicine and health sciences, science and social sciences.

Nottingham's research makes a global impact, from the development of MRI technology to ongoing research into modern slavery and solutions to world hunger. The latest Research Excellence Framework (2014) ranked Nottingham 8th in the UK for research power, with more than 97% of research recognized internationally, while more than 80% of Nottingham's research is ranked as "world-leading" or "internationally excellent."

Currently home to more than 200 students from the USA, the University offers a friendly and diverse environment for US students to pursue their college studies. The student community includes over 34,500 students at Nottingham's UK campuses, coming from over 150 countries, and there are over 300 student clubs and societies. Nottingham has a strong reputation for sport, and ranked 2nd in the UK in the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) league in 2018-19.

The University has three campuses in and around Nottingham, with medical students based at nearby hospitals. Each campus has its own personality, featuring beautiful green spaces, innovative teaching and research facilities, support services, and sport and fitness facilities.

Beyond the campuses, Nottingham is a compact and vibrant city with plenty to explore: historic buildings, cosmopolitan restaurants, cultural festivals, music events, museums and art galleries, sports venues and cinemas, theatres, nightclubs and bars. The city is surrounded by beautiful English countryside, including the Peak District and Sherwood Forest. Nottingham's central location, only two hours from London by train, and excellent transport links also make it an ideal base for exploring the UK.
