One award is offered to pursue a one-year Master’s degree program (or the first year of a longer Master’s or Ph.D. program) in any subject at the University of East Anglia.

The University of East Anglia (UEA) is a world top 200, UK top 15 institution with a reputation for cutting edge, global research and a long history of student satisfaction.

The campus is within 320 acres of rolling parkland, three miles from the centre of Norwich, a medieval British City which is also England’s first UNESCO City of Literature.

Flagship programs include the UK's first School of Environmental Sciences and Creative Writing course. The professional education offered by our Schools of Business, Social Work, Education, and Law are highly regarded. Other academic strengths include Economics, History, Film, Television and Media Studies, American studies, Development Studies, and Philosophy.

This uniquely-placed University is a leading member of Norwich Research Park, one of Europe's biggest concentrations of researchers in the fields of environment, health and plant science.

UEA also has the world famous Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and hosts an International Literary Festival that has included authors such as Ian McEwan, Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro and Anne Enright (all alumni of UEA's creative writing course).

Grant amount

• Full tuition waiver for the first year of study

• £13,450 living stipend

The living stipend is intended as a contribution towards general maintenance costs towards the first year in the UK.

Academic programs may last 9 – 12 months, depending on the length of the academic year.

All grantees to the UK attend a 3-day orientation program on arrival in September, a 4-day Fulbright Forum in January and a farewell event, the Fulbright ‘End-cap’ weekend in June/July.

Candidate Profile

The Commission is seeking applicants who demonstrate:

  • Rigor in scholarly enquiry and academic or professional excellence;
  • Strong reasons for wishing to pursue the proposed project in the UK and at a particular institution;
  • A desire to gain a better understanding of the peoples and cultures of their host country;
  • Commitment to the community through volunteer and extra-curricular activities;
  • Flexibility and dynamism necessary for active involvement in the host country.

Affiliation

Applicants are responsible for arranging their own affiliation and must apply for admission according to the relevant university’s admissions procedures. Applicants are not expected to have a letter of admission/affiliation at time of application, but awards are made conditional upon acceptance by the chosen institution before arrival. Applicants for Ph.D. programs should include a letter of support from their intended Ph.D. supervisor.

Applicants will complete two applications, the Fulbright application and the university’s application (according to the university’s admissions procedures). Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their university applications as early as possible, ideally before January 15, 2020. The Fulbright Program does not cover the application fee for the university.

Affiliation Fees/Tuition

Grantees awarded a Fulbright UK Partnership award will pay no tuition fees.

Ineligibility

The following applicants are ineligible for consideration: applicants who are currently resident in or who have extensive previous experience in the UK, applicants whose proposals are to complete any part of a medical degree, including internships or residencies, or applicants who hold a Ph.D. at the time the grant is to begin.
