Fulbright Grants For Graduate Study Abroad
2009/2010 Competition Statistics

Statistics for the preceding year’s competition may assist you in selecting your country of application. The following competition statistics are organized according to Regional Program or by country within a World Region.

REGIONAL PROGRAMS

A Regional Program is one in which grant funds distributed within a specific geographic region.

  • The U.S. Department of State determines distribution of funds (i.e., number of grants) for Regional Programs and reserves the right to limit the number of awards to any one country.
  • No specific number of grants are available for individual countries within Regional Programs.
  • Selection for countries in Regional Programs will be made based on the quality of the applications, rather than individual country quotas.
  • Distribution of awards to countries in the region will vary annually according to the caliber of the applicants.

Click on the region to see the countries that comprise the region’s program.

COUNTRY PROGRAMS

In non-regional programs, distribution of funds (i.e., number of grants) is determined by the supervising agency abroad and/or by the United States Department of State. Each country will have a pecified number of grants available in a given grant year.

The issuance of an award and the terms of that award may be subject to change by conditions in the host country. The final decision as to the number of awards and availability of specific openings is subject to funding considerations and approval by the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
