BAYLOR UNIVERSITY

Greetings to students interested in applying through Baylor for a Fulbright Scholarship to study, teach or pursue cultural enrichment projects in one of over 140 countries worldwide. At http://us.fulbrightonline.org/home.html you will find everything you need to know in order to propose a meaningful project that complements your interests, skills, and life goals. We have had recent study/research proposals in engineering, international economics, business, music, language, environmental studies, literature, ethnomusicology, and journalism, among others, to countries around the world. We have also had many students interested in teaching English in countries such as France, Germany, Uruguay, Korea, Spain, and Brazil. In the past four years Baylor students have been selected as Fulbright Scholars to Ireland, France (3), Germany (2), Uruguay, Indonesia, South Korea, England, Finland, Spain, Nepal, Armenia, and Brazil. We are so excited for these students! In every case, the opportunity to study, research, or teach English through the Fulbright program is a chance of a lifetime! The process of creating a compelling application is time-consuming and life-consuming. Begin working on your application as early as possible. Narrow your choices and utilize all your resources--including your Baylor professors--to focus your proposal on the project and country for which your skills and interests are best suited. As you already know, there are no guarantees in applying for prestigious scholarships such as the Fulbright. However, no matter the outcome, most students feel this process was valuable to them and would recommend you consider this opportunity seriously. I am glad to help you with this process. Please contact me for further e-mail or phone conversation. We will want to set an appointment on campus (if you are nearby) regarding what next steps need to be taken this summer. My office has additional resources to help you stay organized and on track as you complete the application requirements. All good wishes to you, Elizabeth Vardaman Associate Dean for Special Programs College of Arts and Sciences Baylor University Phone: 254 710 4176. Elizabeth_Vardaman@baylor.edu
