Fordham congratulates all who participated in the 2008 competition. Fourteen Fordham students and alumni have been awarded Fulbright Fellowships for 2009-10: seven Research/Study grants to Mexico, Belgium, Denmark, Jordan, South Africa, Thailand, and China, as well as seven English Teaching Assistantships to Germany, Korea (2), Hong Kong, Vietnam (2), and Thailand. We also honor our three Alternates to Poland, Madagascar, and Taiwan. Thirteen of our forty-three applicants are first-generation Americans, and two are immigrants who recently became American citizens. All Fordham undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni who are pursuing a Fulbright Fellowship work with Fordham's Fulbright Program Adviser. Applicants receive one-on-one counseling throughout the course of the application process. Candidates will receive help in: identifying the best "fit" between their research interests and available countries and institutions; developing their essays; securing proper affiliation and recommendation letters; and refining their applications. The Fulbright Office collects all the hard-copy pieces of the application, and will also organize and run the required on-campus interviews in the fall of 2009. In addition to "traditional" Fulbright Full Grants, designed for study and research, Fulbright also offers English Teaching Assistantships. We encourage students to consider applying for an English Teaching Assistantship to nations like Korea or Indonesia, where no knowledge of the host country language is required, or — for our German-speaking and French-speaking students — to Germany or to France. We meet with students at two locations: Lincoln Center — at 33 W. 60th Street in Rm. 205; and at Rose Hill in Faber Hall, Rm. 673.
