Fulbright U.S. Student Program Sponsored by the Institute of International Education (IIE), U.S. Department of State INTERESTED IN GRADUATE STUDY, RESEARCH, INDEPENDENT STUDY OR TEACHING ABROAD? IIE Fulbright Program Web Site Program Description: up to one year of international funding for recent undergraduates and masters recepients, current graduates students including masters and pre-doctoral students. The Fulbright may be utilized to explore research interests, graduate or independent study projects, and/or teaching opportunities in participating countries. The program purpose is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries through the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills. Selection is based on the applicant’s academic or professional record, language preparation, the feasibility of the proposed study project, and personal qualifications. There are three basic kinds of programs: Full Grants provide round trip travel, maintenance for the tenure of the award, a limited research allowance, and tuition waivers (if applicable), supplemental health insurance, possible language or orientation course for up to one year abroad. Travel Grants provide round-trip transportation to the country of study, supplemental health insurance and orientation courses if applicable. Engligh Teaching Assistantships provide round trip travel, maintenance, supplemental health insurance and orientation courses if applicable. Projected ETA countries (based on 2009): Andorra, Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, Taiwan, Turkey, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, and Venezuela. SPECIAL PROGRAM OPPORTUNITIES Informational Meetings at UCD: UCD Fulbright Program Advisor* will present an introductory session covering the Fulbright mission, grant types, eligibility, campus process, tips and Q & A. UCD’s Fulbright Committee faculty will elaborate on the proposal writing, and former UCD Fulbright student(s) will be present to share their advise on the application process and Fulbright experience abroad. May & June 2010 (dates TBA) Campus Deadline: September 14, 2010, 5pm Campus Interviews: September 16-23, 2010 Advising:Interested applicants must attend one of the informational meetings. One-on-one with campus Fulbright Program Adviser (FPA)* will only be available after informational meetings are complete. Please read through the Fulbright Q & A section before arranging a meeting with the FPA*. Eligibility: Applicants must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application. Applicants must hold a B.A., B.S. or, if in the creative or performing arts, four years of study and/or experience, before the beginning of date of grant with exceptions as noted in the Fulbright Program web site. Applicants can be in any year of graduate study, but must not have completed their PhD at the time of application. All applicants must have sufficient proficiency in the language of the host country to communicate and carry out proposed study/research programs and be in good health. Applicants do not need to be enrolled, or plan on enrolling unless one is seeking to apply to for graduate study abroad . To be competitive for this program, UC Davis encourages applicants no more than 3 years from degree (or currently enrolled) to apply. UC Davis will work with alumini, no more than two year from degree and only if applicant can partake in an on campus interterview. Applications and Information: The Embark application web portal will be utilized for electronical submission to the campus FPA . However only hard copies must be printed and submitted by the campus deadline; a deadline for electronic submission will be given post interview. Letters of recommendation are also uploaded by referees to the Embark site and also must be submitted in hard copy for the campus deadline and mailing to Fulbright. Original transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate insitutions are required and submitted in sealed envelops to the FPA by the campus deadline. Original letters of affiiliation (required for most applications except TA’s) must also be submitted by campus deadline. Applications must be submitted in hard copy to the Office of Graduate Studies by the campus deadline. Electronic submission deadline will be annouced post interview. Campus Interview:all applicants must be partake in a campus interview, enabling faculty to provide the campus evaluation, a requirement of the application by Fulbright.
