Grant period 10 months. Fulbright grants will begin between August 2010 and February 2011, subject to the approval of the U.S. Embassy in Manama.
Affiliation It is strongly recommended that applicants identify appropriate host institutions for their projects and that they include affiliation letters with their Fulbright applications. However, the U.S. Embassy in Manama makes the final arrangements in placing grantees at the appropriate academic institutions.
Dependents The basic amount of the Fulbright grant is increased by US $100 per month for grantees with one accompanying dependent and by US$200 for two or more accompanying dependents.

Critical Language Enhancement AwardThe Critical Language Enhancement Award provides an opportunity for Fulbright U.S. Student Program grantees to receive intensive language study in addition to their research or study grants. The award provides a monthly living stipend and tuition for language training. Application for a Critical Language Enhancement Award is made in conjunction with the Fulbright U.S. Student application. BahrainAcceptable Language: Arabic – Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and dialect Prior Language Study: A minimum of one year of prior Arabic study is required. For details, see here.
Location, Dates and Timing: Grantees receiving their regular Fulbright grant in Gulf Countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and UAE) may participate in CLEA by attending the CLEA Intensive Arabic (MSA) Summer Institute to be held in Cairo, Egypt at the Hedayet Institute for Arabic Studies from on/about July 23 through September 17, 2010. The institute will provide 20 hours per week of total immersion experience, combining language instruction with cultural activities. Upon the completion of the Institute, they must travel immediately to their regular Fulbright country and will be eligible to receive additional funding for supplemental part-time dialect-specific language study (part-time formal coursework or tutoring). The total length of time granted for the Summer Institute and the part-time study must not exceed 6 months in length.
