FULBRIGHT FULL GRANTS

Language Proficient spoken and written Spanish is required at the time of application.

Academic year
February through November.

Grant period
Grant duration is 10 months.  Most grantees choose to begin in the fall but the start date is flexible.  Grants may begin as early as August.  The last possible start date is March 31st.

Affiliation
Applicants are responsible for arranging their own affiliations with an academic institution, research facility, or another appropriate organization, and for submitting supporting documentation verifying this affiliation.

Restriction
Individuals who want to earn a degree from a Costa Rican university or the University of Peace will not be considered.

General comments
Applications are accepted in all fields. Areas of particular interest are the environment; sustainable development; economics and international trade; economic and tax reform; legislative reform; governability; political science; linguistics; and journalism.

Visa requirement
No visa is required for entry into Costa Rica. Grantees must contact the U.S. Embassy in San Jose upon arrival to begin the process of obtaining a long-term visa.

Dependents
The basic amount of the Fulbright grant is increased by US$100 per month for grantees with one accompanying dependent and US$200 per month for two or more accompanying dependents.
