There are two types of grants to Norway. 10 FULBRIGHT FULL GRANTS
Language None required.
Grant period 10 months, mid-August through mid-June with the grant period being of the same duration. Exceptions to this time frame may be granted if necessitated by project content. Grantees are expected to attend a two-day orientation in Oslo in late August/early September.
Candidate profile Well-qualified candidates at all degree levels are considered, but graduate-level applicants are preferred. Candidates must be mature, self-motivated individuals who are capable of working independently without immediate supervision. Projects can be either full-time study or a combination of independent research and advanced courses or seminars.
Affiliations Applicants are encouraged to contact the Norwegian institution, program, or professor of their choice. An evaluation/comment on the feasibility of the proposed project from a Norwegian professor is valuable, and can be included in the application. This is especially important if plans involve independent research. Students who plan to pursue a degree program should not expect to get a letter of invitation or acceptance to a degree program or an institution before submitting a Fulbright application. However, students who plan to pursue a degree program should be sure to apply formally to the Norwegian institution before its deadline. Though not required to enroll in a degree program, all candidates must eventually have an official affiliation with a Norwegian institution of higher education. Candidates are encouraged to establish affiliation before submitting an application. Information on all Norwegian institutions of higher learning can be found at the website for The Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT) http://www.nokut.no/sw410.asp or at http://www.studyinnorway.no/usa.
Special opportunities Projects in circumpolar studies, environmental studies, energy, and climate change are especially welcome. The Research Council of Norway has identified a number of Norwegian Centres of Excellence and Centres of Research-Based Innovation, in fields such as mathematics, geohazards, petroleum research, medieval studies, ships and oceans studies, civil war studies, and more. See www.forskningsradet.no.
Dependents A small allowance for accompanying dependents will be provided; however, due to high living costs, candidates with accompanying dependents should also have private funds. Please note that student housing for married students is limited and expensive.
