There are three types of Fulbright grants to Malaysia. 4 FULBRIGHT FULL GRANTS
Language Malay language skills are encouraged but not required. Projects outside of Kuala Lumpur, Johor Baru, and Penang may require the study of local languages in addition to Bahasa Malaysia. Applicants without language skills should incorporate language study into their proposals.
Grant period 10 months, beginning in late May or early June.
Affiliation It is recommended that applicants identify appropriate host institutions for their projects and that they include current affiliation letters with their Fulbright applications. Host institution affiliation arrangements will be finalized for candidates awarded grants by the Fulbright Commission in Malaysia.
Field of study restrictions Sensitive topics may include certain aspects of environmental management, race relations, and religion, but well-thought-out projects in these fields will be considered.

Website www.macee.org.my 1 FULBRIGHT FULL GRANT IN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS Language Fluency in Bahasa Malaysia is encouraged but not required.
Affiliation The grantee will be based at the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) Malaysia and may also be associated with National University (UKM). IDFR is the training institute of Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and also provides training for junior diplomats from other countries in the region. The grantee will participate in these training programs and will have opportunities to conduct research on topics of international relations relevant to Malaysia and ASEAN.
12 FULBRIGHT ENGLISH TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS Language No Malay language skills are required. All instruction is in English.
Candidate profile Applicants should be mature and articulate graduating seniors, recent graduates, or Master’s students. Candidates should be unmarried and without dependents. Candidates must be native English-speakers. No previous teaching experience is required.
Grant period 10 months, beginning with a mandatory orientation in January 2011.
Nature of assignments Approximately 20 hours per week will be spent in the classroom assisting English teachers, plus all needed class preparation time and school-related activities. English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) will teach conversational English to high school students in Terengganu Province.
Independent study Although this program is essentially for teaching, independent study that does not conflict with assigned teaching responsibilities is encouraged. ETAs will be free to pursue their own interests after school and on weekends, and should include ideas for independent research and language study in their Fulbright proposals.
Housing Housing arrangements will be made for grantees with the assistance of the Fulbright Commission in Malaysia and the Terengganu State Government. Grantees should expect simple Malaysian accommodation which may not be of U.S. standards.
