See Critical Language Enhancement Awards. .

Grant period
10 months. Candidates should design projects that begin in early September 2010 or early March 2011, so that their arrival in China will correspond with the beginning of an academic term at their Chinese host institution. Alternative project time lines are acceptable only for Ph.D. candidates or those grantees applying for a Critical Language Enhancement Award. All candidates receiving Critical Language Enhancement Awards to study Mandarin in China will begin their language studies in an approved program in the summer or fall of 2010, and their Fulbright research term will begin immediately after the conclusion of their intensive language program.

Affiliation

In keeping with programmatic efforts to increase regional diversity and promote the Fulbright program across China, applicants are encouraged to affiliate with universities outside of Beijing or Shanghai. Any applicant wishing to affiliate with a university in Beijing or Shanghai should present serious justification as to why the project must be carried out there in the Statement of Grant Purpose. Other factors being equal, priority may be given to applicants with projects outside the major city centers. It is strongly recommended that applicants identify appropriate host institutions for their projects and that they include affiliation letters with their Fulbright applications. For a list of recommended affiliations, please review the Fulbright China Affiliation Guide for Graduating Seniors and Bachelor’s-level Candidates at https://us.fulbrightonline.org/affiliation_graduatingseniors.html.
