FULBRIGHT FULL GRANTS

Language Intermediate or advanced proficiency in Arabic is recommended but not required. Arabic is the language of instruction in some programs, but research and teaching institutes often use English. See Critical Language Enhancement Awards.

Grant period
10 months. Fulbright grants will begin between August 2010 and March 2011, subject to the approval of the U.S. Embassy in Doha.

Affiliation
It is strongly recommended that applicants identify appropriate host institutions for their projects and that they include affiliation letters with their Fulbright applications. It is generally expected that Fulbright Fellows will be affiliated with a college within Qatar University, and that they will work part-time (on an unpaid basis) in an area that supports their research proposal. The time commitment and type of work is negotiated between the college at Qatar University and the Fulbright Fellow, with the fellow most typically serving as a part-time teaching assistant for a professor in their area of research interest. Most Fulbright Fellows find that their work experience at Qatar University supports them in their research endeavors and provides access to useful contacts and resources in Qatar. The U.S. Embassy in Doha makes the final arrangements in placing grantees at the appropriate academic institutions.

Special opportunities
Other governmental departments (i.e., the Ministry of Education) and semi-quasi government institutions, (i.e., the Supreme Educational Council, Al-Nour Institute for the Visually Impaired, the Planning Council) have also requested Fulbright scholars and may be open to hosting Fulbright students.

Research clearance and visa requirements Research clearance is assumed with the affiliated institute acceptance of the grantee. Grantees should submit passport information as soon as possible to allow the hosting agency sufficient time to obtain a visa.

Dependents
The basic amount of the Fulbright grant is increased by US$100 per month for grantees with one accompanying dependent and by US$200 for grantees with two or more accompanying dependents.
